Artist Statement

I love exploring the abstract world. Using a flatbed scanner to create images (i.e., scanography), I stage pigments, inks and objects and then capture the often random and spontaneous interactions that take place among them. The images invoke both macro photography and abstract painting, where the actions of the medium (such as splatters, drips or uniform fields) play an important role in the result.  Hope you enjoy them!

Organic Abstracts

In this ongoing body of work, organic elements, often recognizable, are combined in scans to become abstract, superseding their physical characteristics to represent something more.

Aerials: Abstract Landscapes

This work abstracts landscapes using scanography to provide a new, unique approach to viewing them.

Frames of Mind

This body of work explores image "frames"  which heighten the abstraction in the images: the edges of the internal frame often challenge the outer borders of the photograph as the primary boundary. This challenge weakens the outer frame, inviting an illusion that the image continues beyond and encourages our imagination to do the same.
